The Challenge

It was imperative to develop an audio identity that not only complemented their visual work, but also captured their core values of clarity, connection and innovation. Studio Lenzing needed a soundscape that would be able to combined human warmth, with technological precision. Conveying the perception of innovation and emotion coexisting.

Through multiple iterations of the sonic profile, we discussed with the team at Studio Lenzing how the options seemed to convey their identity and goals. With each step we honed in on a soundscape that best conveyed the brand’s characteristics of simplicity, togetherness and innovation.

Studio Lenzing

Studio Lenzing is an interactive design studio, founded in 2016, with a mission to create better user experiences within the digital landscape. By stripping away the unnecessary elements to find what truly matters, while also understanding that simplicity can actually enhance people’s lives. As an independently owned company with their home-base in Hamburg, Germany, they are known for their attention to detail with a goal of creating meaningful connections.

What they needed from us was a soundscape that would blend well with their visual showreels, encapsulating the brand’s vision of an independent group, building an experience for their customers that exudes a simple, precise experience. They essentially wanted a collection of sounds that did not overshadow, yet elevated their visual identity.

The Solution

Audio Identity

Our solution was to create a minimalistic sound environment built with precision. Using a subtle, yet dynamic interplay between a UI inspired polyrhythm and a steady deep drumbeat, allowing for complexity within the mix. We also wanted to highlight the heavy contrast used in the company’s visual identity by using instruments that played with the same variation.

This echoed Studio Lenzing’s seamless blend of human sensitivity and technological finesse. Every sonic element was curated to enhance the company’s showreels, while not overpowering the visuals. This balance produced an experience that feels refined, intentional and timeless.

These tracks play with a divergence of sounds between the solid heavy bass notes against the crisp top-end synth elements to build a huge sound, while also maintaining strong clarity in the individual details. This dichotomy allows for the experience to grow with repeated listening, as new parts and interplay begin to arise between these two spaces of sound.

For the Choir track we offered an additional subtle humanistic element by allowing a soft swell of vocal accompaniment. The subtle differences in the resulting tracks provided a double sided soundscape that allowed the brand to have control of the length and feel that might best express their message at each touchpoint. Both tracks utilized a similar backbone of instruments for a strong singular identity, while offering just enough variety to instill flexibility in their use.

With their new soundscape Studio Lenzing could convey their identity with a seamless blend of both the sound and visuals. The soundscape could also fit into an array of lengths to be easily implemented in all forms of media, without losing the cohesive feeling of the brand’s new sound.
